What it is

Squarespace and Wix are hosted website builders. You choose a template, edit it in the browser, and publish. Hosting, SSL, templates and a domain are included, and no developer is required at any point.

What it is good at

• Getting a presentable site live quickly, at low cost, with no technical help.
• Templates that are genuinely well designed, so the result usually looks good.
• Removing infrastructure entirely from your life. There is no server to think about.
• Built-in commerce, scheduling and email tools that would otherwise be separate services.

What it leaves with you

• Accessibility. Both publish guidance telling site owners how to make their content accessible, which places the work and the judgement with you.
• Compliance evidence. Neither produces a record you can send to a customer, an insurer or a lawyer.
• Consent behavior. Whether the tools you enable fire before a visitor agrees is something you have to determine and manage.
• The template ceiling. What you can change is what the builder exposes, and performance and markup are largely outside your control.

Which to choose

Choose Squarespace and Wix when

• The site is small, the budget is small, and the compliance exposure is genuinely low.
• You want to publish and edit everything yourself, immediately, with no intermediary.
• The built-in commerce or booking tools are what you actually need.

Choose WebSpark when

• The website is a business-critical asset and somebody will eventually ask you to prove it is looked after.
• You operate in a regulated trade, or your customers send security questionnaires.
• Performance and accessibility need to be controlled rather than inherited from a template.

What switching costs

Content usually has to be recreated rather than exported cleanly, which is the real cost. The upside is that a builder site is generally small, so the work is bounded. Redirects still matter: URLs on these platforms often carry a structure that does not survive a move, and mapping them is what protects your rankings.
